Spring brings blossom to the surrounding orchards and gardens, and is the promise of hot summer days and fresh stone fruit. Autumn follows celebrated with golden balmy days which is a photographers paradise.
The fruit season in Otago is from December to late March. Cherries, apricots, nectarines, peaches, apples and pears are readily available during this time. Indulge in fresh fruit, local produce and good wines. Cromwell, a place for well-being.
As well as the fruit season, your have the usual lake activities like boating, fly fishing, water sports etc, and also snow skiing on any of the five world famous New Zealand snow skiing areas. We are forty five minutes drive to Lake Wanaka or Queenstown, Arrowtown is half an hour and Te Anau two and a half hours. Cromwell offers access to five ski fields and is surrounded by vine yards. Cromwell is an amazing geographical location, formed by glacial activity that left behind the terraces of the surrounding landscape, and encircled by the huge Lake Dunstan.
 The Goldfields in South Island in Otago are mostly alluvial gold, contained in gravels, gold panning is popular, as is sluicing. Today, you can still pan for gold at many places in the region - so, grab a pan and head out on your own.
Old Cromwell Town is home to local craftspeople and café. You will enjoy a stroll around this historic precinct located at the end of Melmore Terrace. Open every day, and entry is free, many of the original town buildings have already been either restored or reconstructed. History lives on.
